SmarTools, an innovative CD-Rom software programs puts PROMPT into practice.
What will I find in SmarTools? SmarTools currently has three modules. One is for client information,
analysis and goal selection using the Motor Speech Treatment
Hierarchy; one is for word selection; and one is for activity
selection. We analyzed approximately 825 words into Stages (2, 3,
4, 5 and 6), and developed 150 activities, also divided into
Stages. Many activities come with pictures. With this program, you
will be able to easily and quickly analyze a client, and select
goals, words and activities appropriate to their functioning
level.
In the CLIENT module you will be able to: • Enter identifying information about a student or client
• Go to the Motor Systems Relationships questionnaire and complete the analysis
• Based on the analysis, select priority areas on the Motor Speech Treatment Hierarchy in which to start in treatment
• Choose goals
• Go to words and activities according to stages/goals selected
• Track treatment sessions
In the WORD SELECTION module you will be able to: • Select words that correspond to the stages on the Motor Speech Treatment Hierarchy
• Find words that are ranked according to stage and difficulty level. Words are rated as easy-moderate-difficult as determined by Deborah Hayden. Due to the dynamic and ballistic nature of speech, determination of difficulty levels was of necessity arbitrary. The intent of the difficulty levels is to communicate variation of word challenges within each stage. There is no objective way to determine exact difficulty levels.
In the ACTIVITY SELECTION module you will be able to: • Select activities that correspond to stages on the Motor Speech Treatment Hierarchy
• Choose activities in the treatment program that should help or teach the child to interact appropriately, use the materials and activities in the therapy session and develop useful skills/concepts through them. The child should develop an understanding of how to use language to get what they want in the session/activity, learn speech motor behaviors that are appropriate to their communicative level and use those behaviors to communicate functionally in their environment.
